Weekend Camping Trips

Troop 50 is dedicated to the ideal of keeping the "Outing" in Scouting.  We hold at least one outdoor activity every month. most of which include camping.  The character of boys is shaped through regular participation on camping trips.  We travel anywhere between 15 minutes and 5 hours for weekend outings. Some past favorites: Natural Shelters, Spelunking, White Water Rafting, Rock Climbing, Skiing, High Ropes and Zip Lines, Clay Target Shooting.

Long Term Camp

Summer Camp 2017 will be at Pipsico Scout Reservation near Spring Grove, VA. Summer Camp is a mainstay of the Scouting program. Troop 50 typically visits different camp locations each year to keep the summers active and interesting.  Pipsico as a Scout camp dates back to 1958, but its history goes back much further. In fact, the patent history (now deed history) goes back to December 13, 1634 when King Charles I patented 2000+ acres of land, on the South shores of the James River and four miles upstream from Jamestown, to Col. Henry Browne. Henry Browne was born in 1598 in Westminster, London, England and arrived in Virginia in 1634. In 1637 Pipsico Plantation increased in size with the addition of land known today as Eastover. The land was considered part of the original Jamestown Colony, and served as a look-out post to protect the settlers at Jamestown.

High Adventure

We pack High Adventure into our entire program. Organized High Adventure is what keeps the older scouts coming back for more. These are 1 - 2 week long trips designed to challenge First Class Scouts who are at least 13 -14 years old, depending on the activity. You can find out about all kinds of opportunities provided by the BSA in the High Adventure Data Base
